An afternoon at Niagara Falls

September 4th, 2008 | Categories: Photo Essay, Travel

Since I had the day off on Sunday to rest before my work week, LD and I decided to go around. Although we could have theoretically driven back to Toronto for the CNE, instead, we chose to go to Niagara Falls. Here is my photo essay:

We parked our rental car in Cascade Niagara’s parkade and had lunch there. LD wanted to shop something in a nearby Hard Rock Cafe and after that we went to a nearby park to see the falls.

And finally… The falls!

I originally jumped into the idea of taking the ferry so we kept on walking to buy the tickets…

But! When I saw this:

I changed my mind. Again, I know, I know, I missed it but, after seeing the jam packed boat, I had to turn around. It is not only partial claustrophobia, it is also fear of water. LD was partially disappointed but, in the end, agreed with me. So we kept walking to the other fall and took pictures like these:

Rainbow Bridge, the bridge that connects Canada and the US.

At that point, we chose to walk back as it was starting to rain (and no, it was not because of the mist created by the falls). However, I had to stop in a nearby pond to take this picture:

Really cute! (However, from an artistic perspective, I prefer the picture I took in Dr. Sun Yat Set garden.)

We were walking back by Clifton Hill and passed by some of the local attractions:

However, when we walked by this…

Yup, that’s the SkyWheel! I knew I had to take it!! While waiting in the queue, LD was having second thoughts and was not sure how I managed to get us to ride it!!! We were partially panicking in the first turn but, after the third one, we were OK. Here are some pictures I took (notice there is a bit of glare due to the glass of the gondola).

After that, we went back to the Hard Rock Cafe area and the shops nearby. In my case, I was interested in visiting the Hershey Chocolate store and the Coca Cola store

I wanted to see if they had a “Give Me All the Chocolate and Nobody will Get Hurt” T-Shirt but, alas, they did not have those…

After a bit of shopping we then decided to go back to the car and drop the bags. However, we saw this:

I am used to this (this would be the usual rain in Panama) but I guess this is not the usual rain you see in Vancouver!

Overall it was entertaining and it seems I must go back to ride the ferry to the falls. However, putting that aside, I had a really odd feeling. Aside from the falls itself, the nearby area looked… fake. I know this is odd but that’s the only word I can think of to describe it. Why? Well, it is so turisty (see Clifton Hill above) I don’t get the sense of the city but, instead, something just for tourist. But, regardless, it was interesting!
